The word “obesity” has not often been met with empathy and understanding. It’s been highly stigmatized and those affected by it have been classified as “lazy” while facing shame and bias in their day-to-day lives.

 

We partnered with FleishmanHillard and Novo Nordisk to shift the conversation with It’s Bigger Than Me Live—a 3-city tour featuring Queen Latifah and experts unpacking obesity’s complexities. Each stop explored a unique theme: NYC: obesity + society, Houston: obesity + the body, and Los Angeles: obesity + mental health and featured theme-specific programming to get the guests comfortable to discuss this vulnerable topic. We had the Truth Booth – a video booth where guests were encouraged to share their weight-related journey, an interactive photo mural for guests, typewriter poets and a roaming portrait artist.

Panels concluded with performances tied to each theme—spoken word in NYC, a dance performance in Houston, and group meditation in LA. The tour ignited a movement to de-stigmatize obesity, leaving guests empowered to drive change.

 

We were responsible for every aspect, from research (we hired a Psychologist specializing in obesity to ensure we were communicating the right things the right way) to experience and environmental design.
